Forgiveness and Mental Health, a Stepping Stone to Recovery

Presented by...

Dr. David Weaver-Zercher
Dr. David Weaver-Zercher is professor of American religious history at Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania. Professor Weaver-Zercher has co-authored the book, Amish Grace: How Forgiveness Transcended Tragedy.  Amish Grace explores the many questions the story of multiple murders in the Amish school in Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania raises about the religious beliefs that led the Amish to forgive so quickly. It examines forgiveness and questions if Amish practices parallel or diverge from other religious and secular notions of forgiveness. Dr. Weaver-Zercher will discuss these concepts in light of the mental health issues involved.

Dr. Randy Goossen
Dr. Randy Goossen is the Medical Director of Community Mental Health and an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba. Besides his passion for community, Dr. Goossen has a special interest and expertise in spirituality & mental health and is exploring the notion of forgiveness as it relates to these two.  In addition, Dr. Goossen has traveled to and worked in various third world countries including Rwanda, Haiti, Belize and Nepal.  He is a singer songwriter who enjoys spending special moments traveling with his family.
